R 18 Highlights

Inspired by a Legend.

The R 18 masterfully transposes the iconic style of bygone times to the present day, retaining a purist design that is clearly influenced by the classics. It’s no coincidence that elements such as the double-loop frame, pear-drop tank, and exposed driveshaft hark back to the legendary BMW R 5 of 1936. Together with the double-sided swingarm and cantilever suspension strut, the R 18 simultaneously pays tribute to the classic, and transports it into the modern age

Highlight 1

Our Most Powerful Boxer Engine of All Time.

The R 18’s “Big Boxer” Engine – BMW’s most powerful boxer engine ever – draws inspiration from the traditional boxer engines that were synonymous with BMW motorcycles from the early 20th century. The twin-cylinder 1802 cc engine boasts an impressive output of 91 hp at 4750 rpm and delivers 150 Nm of torque at all times – for unprecedented pulling power.

Highlight 2

Pared-Back and Laid-Bare.

One look at the new R 18 is all it takes to realize that it’s designed with the purist in mind. Striking yet understated, it shifts focus back to the essentials, placing visual emphasis on the boxer engine as the epicentre of riding pleasure. And yet, its classic, clean-cut design is combined with contemporary technology to create a fascinating overall concept – and a riding experience that’s as cultivated as it is emotional.
